I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle Crime - theft from / theft of, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Keep Your Vehicle Safe This Autumn
As we move towards the autumn months and the evenings begin to get darker earlier, we often see an increase in thefts from vehicles. Criminals look for easy opportunities, and even leaving items in a vehicle for a short time can make it a target.
Many thefts from vehicles are preventable, and we would like to remind residents to take a few simple steps to help protect their property:
• Always lock your vehicle, even if you are only leaving it for a few moments
• Remove all valuables from sight, including bags, wallets, phones, tools, and loose change
• Do not leave keys inside your vehicle or in obvious locations nearby
• Ensure windows, sunroofs and doors are fully secured when parked
• Park in well-lit, busy areas where possible
• Remove signs of valuables, such as charging cables, sat nav mounts, or empty gift bags
Offenders will often try vehicle door handles looking for unlocked cars, particularly during the darker evenings. Taking a few moments to secure your vehicle can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
We also ask residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in your area. If you see someone acting suspiciously around parked vehicles, please let us know.
